Books I read in August 2022
On the hunt for something that can entertain or inform you? I’m sharing my summer reading, including page-turning thrillers and a book about the psychology of expectations.
Bella Mackie: How To Kill Your Family
Some people have fathers who beat them, some have fathers who wear Crocs. We all have our crosses to bear.
Grace is the illegitimate daughter of one of the richest people in Britain. To avenge her mother and rebalance the scales, she begins to kill off her family one by one. “How to kill your family” is a comedy in the darkest shade of black. It is a wild ride to read and I enjoyed every page of it. The disposal of each family member also provides opportunity for scathing social satire. The lifestyle of the superrich, the preoccupations of middle-class families, and the behaviours of alternatives are all targets for Grace’s scorn. There were several scenes that I had to share with friends, because the descriptions were just too perfect to not pass on. This book is perfect entertainment for anyone who can stomach something a bit darker.
