On the hunt for something that can entertain or inform you? I’m sharing the books I read in December, including an epic fantasy novel, a history of bisexual identity, an psychological perspective on money, and two gripping thrillers.

Patrick Rothfuss: The Name of the Wind

Words are pale shadows of forgotten names. As names have power, words have power. Words can light fires in the minds of men. Words can wring tears from the hardest hearts.

The Name of the Wind is one of those rare fantasy novels that manage to engross the reader fully in the tale. I spent hours reading the 600+ pages of this novel and felt transported to a rich world full of adventure and intrigue. At its core, this book is about the power of stories. We use stories to understand our world, make sense of ourselves, and determine how others see us. The book starts off at a later timeline when the protagonist tells the story of his origin. We live through the adversities and challenges of his early years and learn about his motivation.
