Lecturing remains an integral component of academic and corporate teaching, offering a platform to impart knowledge, stimulate discussion, and inspire learners. However, designing a compelling lecture can often be a daunting task, fraught with challenges from content curation to delivery. General outline

My lecture preparation process consists of a checklist that I complete for each lecture. It consists of the following 7 steps:

1. Find out about the audience

Gaining insights into students’ prior learning and interests is paramount in shaping an effective lecture. Understanding where learners are coming from allows for a tailored approach, bridging the gap between what they already know and the new material being introduced. This also avoids boredom, because prior knowledge can be briefly revisited rather than discussed in detail.
